Grace Gospel Church

A Community Learning To Love God And Love People

History

In 1960, a group of Christians were convinced that God was leading them to establish a new church in the town of Paris, Ontario.  Initial planning was held in February, and an organizational committee was appointed.  The committee decided to apply for membership with the Associated Gospel Churches.  Rev. J.L. Hockney, Secretary-Treasurer of the AGC at the time, spoke at the opening services on March 6th in the local Masonic Hall.  Forty-one attended the morning service.

The church was officially received into the fellowship of AGC churches on May 25, 1960.  Plans for a church building were begun in the fall of 1960 and a search committee chose the present location at the corner of Grand River Street North and Silver Street for a building site.  Construction began in the fall of 1961 and the building was dedicated on May 13, 1962.

Throughout the history of the church it has remained faithful to the Word of God through the means of the pulpit, Sunday School (now Children’s Ministry), Bible Clubs, Women’s Missionary Fellowship, Young Peoples and various other ministries.  From the commencement of the church, missionary outreach has been given a strong emphasis, including the call and commission of some of our own members to full-time missionary service at home and abroad..

During the last few years there has been a process of encouraging progress in the areas of the youth and children’s ministry, the development of small groups, and the development of a comprehensive ministry strategy. We have progressed through a time of renewal and refocusing as a church family.  During this time a Vision Team was struck to formulate a comprehensive ministry focus and workable restructuring strategy.  The Vision Team’s recommendations have been widely accepted by the congregation and are in the process of being implemented.  We are a church anticipating God’s direction and poised for the mobilization of His purposes.

We give thanks to God for His great faithfulness to us as a congregation over the past fifty years.  We recognize that whatever has been accomplished is owed to His grace and guidance.

To God be the Glory!
